Address: 741 Pacific Parade, Currumbin QLD
When it comes to beachside weddings in Queensland, few places capture the magic quite like Elephant Rock at Currumbin Beach. For Thomas and Megan, this incredible stretch of coastline became the backdrop to one of the most heartfelt and visually stunning wedding days I’ve had the honour of capturing.
From its cinematic headlands to golden sands and soft, ocean breezes, Elephant Rock offers a natural elegance that feels both grounded and ethereal—perfect for couples who want a relaxed celebration wrapped in coastal beauty.
Elephant Rock isn’t just a gorgeous beach—it’s an iconic Gold Coast landmark. The rock formation that gives the area its name sits proudly on the shoreline, offering a dramatic visual anchor for wedding portraits. Add to that sweeping views, easy access, and a sense of untouched beauty, and it becomes clear why this is a favourite among locals and destination couples alike.
Here’s why I love photographing weddings here:
Natural backdrops in every direction: From rocky headlands to open beach, the variety of textures makes for timeless portraits.
Peaceful and versatile: Despite its popularity, there’s often a peaceful quietness here—ideal for intimate elopements and full-scale celebrations.
Golden hour perfection: This location glows during sunset. If you’re planning an afternoon ceremony, the light just before sunset is warm, flattering, and perfect for couple portraits.
Easy logistics: Located just off Pacific Parade with nearby amenities and parking, it offers beauty and convenience.
Thomas and Megan’s wedding was full of emotion, laughter, and intentional, beautiful details. Their ceremony took place right on the sand, with the ocean gently humming in the background. Soft florals in dusty pink and ivory added a touch of softness to the rugged coastal scene, while Megan’s veil fluttered perfectly in the sea breeze.
One of the highlights was their couple session atop Elephant Rock itself. From there, we captured sweeping views of the coastline, with golden light melting into the horizon. It was cinematic, soulful, and full of connection—everything you’d want in a wedding story.
Timing makes all the difference when it comes to beach photography, and Elephant Rock is no exception. Here’s my advice:
Golden Hour (1 hour before sunset): This is the absolute best time for couple portraits. The light is soft, directional, and wraps beautifully around skin tones.
Early Morning (around sunrise): If you’re planning a morning ceremony, the light can be equally magical—especially on a clear day.
Midday: Strong sun creates harsh shadows, so I recommend using shaded spots or backlit compositions. It’s doable, but less ideal.
Check the tide chart – High tide may reduce usable beach area.
Consider council permits – Beach weddings often require permission from the local council (City of Gold Coast).
Footwear matters – Be prepared to go barefoot or wear beach-friendly footwear.
Plan for wind – Secure veils, use hairpins, and embrace the movement—it looks stunning in photos!
Besides the beautiful setting, what stood out about Thomas & Megan’s wedding was how true it felt to them. Every detail was personal—from the acoustic music played by a family friend, to their handwritten vows, to the quiet glance they shared before the ceremony started.
As a photographer, I aim to capture not just the beauty of the setting, but the energy and spirit of each couple. With Thomas and Megan, the connection was raw, joyful, and deeply loving. It was an honour to preserve those memories.
If you’re considering a beach wedding, Elephant Rock in Currumbin deserves a spot at the top of your list. It’s raw, romantic, and naturally breathtaking. Whether you’re planning a grand celebration or a soulful elopement, this coastal gem delivers.
And when the day comes, I’d love to be there—quietly capturing your laughter, your connection, and all the fleeting in-between moments that tell the real story.
